Selling Art featuring James Picard
by Rod Drown
A casual visitor would think there were several artists, even
Old Masters, sharing the space in James Picard’s studio, However,
what the sheer variety really shows is Picard’s corresponding
knock-out vitality and versatility. “This,” says the
beaming artist, “is what comes of being hooked into the LA/Hollywood
pipeline of film work, big houses with bare walls and millionaires
flying in from New York looking for big deals and large paintings!”

James Picard is precise, prolific and quick! Thus
he is in high demand by Hollywood heavyweights. Picard says he has
been cultivating his Hollywood and LA contacts for about 8 or 9
years. A new film about Picard is being geared up with shooting
scheduled to take place in Vancouver, New York and London England.

Picard possesses a very deep well of creativity – one that,
in fact, seems inexhaustible and infinitely accessible. He will
often work for 18 to 22 hours, even up to 72 hour stretches. Another
big upcoming project, to be called “The Cocktail Series”,
will be based on a series of watercolour paintings he started in
New York City over the last few years. It has been inspired in part
by the variety of characters always on parade in that most cosmopolitan
of cities, especially at cocktail parties, socials, and soirees.

Picard has been holding out for the right environment to present his
works. Such a combination seems to have come together thanks to his old
friend Tony Chamberlist, a Vancouver musician and producer who engaged
his songwriting/ performance partners Glenda Rae and Miles Black. Chamberlist
assembled a musical and production ensemble to complement the project,
including bassist/producer Kerry Galloway and guitarist/producer Brett
Wade, highly sought after West Coast music industry veterans. A first
exhibition, planned for October of 2007, will also involve the production
of a CD of tunes composed by the musical team.
Picard is also well known for his demonstrations of charitable concern.
A recent one was the Camp Good Times Cancer Camp held July 1st and 2nd
when, Picard, along with 50 teenagers, sketched and created self-portraits
in a painting frenzy that went on late into the night
